Narberth were made to fight for their runs by an accurate Whitland Bowling attack and were dismissed for 86.
Once again skipper Marc Hughes led from the front. He opened the innings to score 34 from 37 balls, including one six and four fours, before being bowled by Raff Williams. His brother Ian played a supporting role with 17 and Mike Scale was the other batsman in double figures with 11.
Scale and Marc Hughes added 25 for the fifth wicket and the Hughes brothers put on 38 together for the sixth wicket.
For Whitland, Mark Lee finished with a return of three for 15, paceman Owen Edwards 3 for 22 and all-rounder Raff Williams 2 for 17.
For a long time, Whitland were behind the required run rate. On a sluggish outfield it was never easy to get the ball away and Narberth bowled accurately without much leeway.
Whitland opener David Lee scored 19 before being well caught by Ceri Jones off the bowling of Richard Howell and left-hander Paul Davies top scored with 24 before being bowled by Richard Howell on attempting to sweep the ball off his stumps.
Raff Williams showed what a valuable asset he will be to Whitland Cricket Club this season with his undefeated knock of 21 to book a place for Whitland in the second round.
Richard Howell was the pick of the Narberth bowlers with 2 for 13 from five overs and Ollie Cook gave nothing away in a six-over spell, during which he conceded ten runs and picked up one wicket.
Whitland will now play Saundersfoot in the second round at home on Thursday, May 25. Carew had a comfortable win over the visitors from Herbrandston by a margin of 85 runs after recovering from 68 for 4 to reach a total of 154 for 5.
Ian Sefton scored 16 and fellow opener Nick Scourfield 26, but the batting heroes on this occasion were Simon Wood and newcomer Wayne Cannon.
The pair added 78 for the fifth wicket before Cannon was dismissed for 35, having hit five 4s, and Wood was undefeated at the end with a splendid innings of 54 not out, including six 4s. Kristan Bennett took 2 for 30 for the visitors. In reply, Herbrandston were bowled out for a disappointing total of 69.
Jonathon Bennett scored 22 before falling to a brilliant boundary catch by Wayne Cannon off the bowling of spinner John Canton, described by Carew secretary Nick Scourfield as one of the best catches ever seen on the Carew ground.
Kristan Bennett and Leigh Broome were the other batsmen in double figures with 14 and 11, respectively.
Tim Hicks took 3 for 23 and Wayne Cannon 3 for 26, but it was spinner John Canton who returned the best figures with three for five from his two overs. Carew will be away to Pembroke or Johnston in the second round on Wednesday, May 24. At the time of going to press, the fixtures between Kilgetty and Haverfordwest and between St. Ishmaels and Hundleton had been postponed because of the weather.
Other matches scheduled for this week were Burton v Hook and Pembroke v Johnston, both of which were scheduled to be played yesterday (Thursday) evening.
Any fixtures postponed from this week will be played next week.
