Following its recent inspection, Gelli Aur/Golden Grove School, Pembroke, has been described as being a well ordered, caring community offering a wide range of provision and initiatives.
Standards are good with most pupils making very good progress and demonstrating good attitudes to learning. Pupils work productively with others, strive well to complete tasks to the best of their ability and are described as being polite, courteous and respectful.
Clear rules and procedures are implemented consistently and there is a good focus on pupils' personal and social education. Tackling social disadvantage to promote access to learning lies at its core and is a significant strength with the head teacher and staff monitoring pupils' well being rigorously and offering support of a high standard. Communication with parents is good and pupils state that they feel safe, enjoy school and know who to turn to for help and guidance.
Recommendations for the school to continue achieving its good standards include raising the attainment of more able and talented pupils and further developing assessment for learning strategies. Prospects for improvement are good as the school is well led and managed with the staff knowing the school well and working effectively as a team. Good use is made of assessment data in order to monitor and track pupils' progress with new initiatives improving aspects of learning and raising standards.
Chair of governors, Clr. Rosalie Lilwall, is proud of the school's achievements and said: "This report reflects the enthusiasm and hard work of all at Golden Grove and everyone's high level of commitment in meeting pupil needs."
