A couple of weeks ago the Junior section played their annual match against the Rabbits for the Benbow Browning Price Cup, kindly donated by Mr. Steven Price and his wife. With the format being a fourball betterball matchplay competition, both sides were eager to be the victors. The junior team selection meant that the pairings were front loaded in true Ryder Cup fashion, and the tactics were proved right with James Maxwell and Emma Guerreiro winning 8 and 7 and Christopher Davies and Matthew Adams winning 3 and 2, giving the juniors a two-point lead after the first two matches. With the experience gained over the years, the Rabbits anticipated this and soon managed to level the match by winning the next two pairings, whereby Matthew Jones and Garin Rees lost 2 and 1 and Rhys Williams and Aled Rees lost 5 and 3. With just two matches remaining, the tension was mounting, and when Cieran Slyne and Georgia Thomas won 4 and 3, it was all down to the last match involving Ben Vickery and young Olivia Bradbury, who was driven round in a buggy by her father Robin, despite playing against her for the Rabbits. Olivia obviously felt she had to bow to peer pressure and let her dad win. The match were therefore declared a tie, but in true Ryder Cup spirit, the Juniors, as holders, retained the trophy for another year. The end of a tremendous day saw both teams dining together over a plate full of sausages and mash, kindly provided by the Rabbits section. Club president, Mr. Ian Bates, presented the cup to Junior captain, Christopher Davies, as well as each junior team member being given a memento of the day, kindly sponsored by Mr. Steven Price. A big thank you must go to Rabbits captain, Mr. Steven Harries, for organising this wonderful match, despite being on a hiding to nothing!
