Not quite a matter of the animals going in two by two or heavy rains, however, the Greenlinks Team from Golden Grove School were kept busy with an audit of the animals at the (Greenlinks) Glan-Y-Mor Farm.

With the amount of work to be carried out, the group was split in to two teams, with each doing a count and a general welfare check under the eye of the farm manager. The teams were glad to be able to report that all animals were present and correct in the covered facility. There was some confusion when the horses moved places and greeted the pupils from another door as they went outside to do further check!

Whilst in the covered area, the pupils had a chance to handle some of the pet animals, a young rabbit receiving what was probably a month's worth of strokes.

Moving on to the outside pens, the pupils set about collecting goose eggs of varying sizes, mindful of the potential of the geese getting a bit frisky some the pupils kept an eye on the birds whilst others collected. The same routine was carried out when checking the hen houses from where further eggs were collected. The resident cockerel strutted and called all through the visit to the hen pens, much to the amusement of the pupils.

Returning to the office area, the pupils were awarded for their hard work with a mug of tea and a biscuit. The team were most grateful for the hot tea as the weather was cold and wet.

The team throughly enjoyed the visit and gained a great insight to the work being carried out at Glan-Y-Mor.

Les Johnson, headteacher, said: "I am grateful to the Greenlinks Company for the work they do with the school. We have an interesting programme of activities with them over the next few months, the visit to the farm was a chance for the pupils to help the farm in the all important animal audit."
