Celebrating their golden wedding anniversary next weekend are Pentlepoir couple, Bert and Pru Taylor of 14, Pentle Drive.

Prudence (nee John) is originally from Spittal, near Haverfordwest, and Bert originates from Pontefract, Yorkshire.

In fact, it was on Bert's first night in Wales that he met his would-be bride at Portfield Fair.

The couple started courting a week later and were married in Badsworth, Yorkshire on May 23, 1953.

They returned to Pru's native Pembrokeshire when Bert moved to the area to work at RAF Folly, near Haverfordwest, where he was based until he joined the Dyfed-Powys police force in 1956.

Bert travelled all over Pembrokeshire, from Haverfordwest, Neyland, Tenby, Saundersfoot to Kilgetty, where he and Pru decided to move to in 1959.

Bert later became a sergeant at Tenby police station and served in the force until his retirement in 1987.

Pru, meanwhile worked in the Haverfordwest branch of W.H. Smiths for many years up until she retired.

The couple have two sons, Robert, a well-known businessman in Pembroke Dock and Paul, who followed his father's footsteps by joining the RAF. He is now retired and lives in Wiltshire.

The couple also have four grandchildren and they are looking forward to them all joining them for their golden celebrations.

To mark their 50th anniversary, Bert and Pru will be having an 'open house' from 1.30 pm next Friday, (May 23) and friends, relatives and neighbours are invited to call in and share a bite to eat and a drink with them, but strictly no presents they insist.

The celebrations will continue the next day, when the couple will be enjoying a celebratory evening with their family at the Blue Dolphin in Tenby.
