LAMPHEY couple Auriol and Bernie Scourfield celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a party for 50 family members and friends at Lamphey Hall Hotel.

The couple first met at the former Kilgetty Co-operative Society where they both worked.

They were married at Cold Inn Baptist Chapel on Boxing Day, December 26, 1964.

Explained Auriol: "Bernie moved into local government finance locally, and successfully studied for accountancy exams in order to pursue a career in local government.

"Our first move was in 1970 to Sidmouth in Devon, then to Swindon in Wiltshire in 1974. By this time, the children, Cheryl and Dean, were established in school life, enabling me to qualify as a PA at Swindon College and then work for a number of blue-chip companies in the area. We remained in the Swindon area until my retirement in 2002, when we moved to our current home in Lamphey."

Auriol continued: "From 2002 to 2011, Bernie set-up as a freelance accountant and independent examiner to charities. I became heavily involved in fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support - both as secretary and treasurer to the local Pembrokeshire committee.

"Our daughter and son both studied at university. Cheryl is married with two children, Jessica and Robyn - our only grandchildren - and lives with her husband Gerhard near Stuttgart in Germany. Our son, Dean returned from studying fine art at the Kunstakademie in Stuttgart to live with his partner Jayne in Milford Haven."

So what is Auriol and Bernie's recipe for 50 years of happy marriage?

Both agreed: "Don't be afraid to express differing opinions, remember to make up, if you quarrel, educate each other at the same pace, make love, not war, but not necessarily in that order!"
