Clr. Mrs. Ruth Platt has been awarded a gold star this week after stepping into the breach of a possible Mayoral dilemma.

She put her name forward to serve as First Citizen for 2016/2017 when the matter was raised at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council.

Current Deputy Mayor, Clr. Jeremy Griffiths, who should have taken on the job, had already declined due to work and family commitments.

In time honoured tradition, Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Elizabeth Rogers went round the table individually asking each councillor if they wished to stand, with only chairman of the winter carnival committee, Clr. Mrs. Platt indicating she would.

She was duly nominated by Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees, seconded by Clr. David Norcross, with all in favour.

Clr. Mrs. Platt, an admin support assistant at Pembrokeshire County Council, is no stranger to the role, having served twice previously in 2009/10 and 2013/14.

She will don the scarlet robes of office at the Mayor-making ceremony during the council’s AGM next month.

Clr. Griffiths will remain in the role of Deputy Mayor.
