A Pembrokeshire couple travelled to London last week to join stars and celebrities at one of the most glittering events of the Christmas season.

Held at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane, the Variety Club's Christmas lunch is one of the most popular in the London events calendar and this year raised just over £50,000 to help children with special needs.

Radio Pembrokeshire broadcast journalist Jim Hughes and County Councillor Mrs. Anne Hughes, who celebrate a 40-year association with Variety Club, had donated a turbo trike for auction at the event.

During the lunch, Jim met up with old friends, song writer and composer Tony Hatch and broadcaster and DJ Mike Read.

The cabaret was provided by the cast of the new West End musical Dreamboats and Petticoats.

On Friday, more than 300 children from Pembrokeshire spent the afternoon at Swansea's Grand Theatre for a special performance of Aladdin, starring Jimmy Osmond, and arranged by Jim and Anne Hughes through the Variety Club of Great Britain.
