Sir,

On reading in last week's Observer that residents only parking may be considered for The Glen in Saundersfoot, I would like to point out the obvious solution to this problem which would benefit not only the residents, but also all the locals and holidaymakers who like to visit the Glen Beach.

There is ample scope to enlarge the existing parking bay which can only accommodate about four cars. Surrounded by woodland it could be made into a extensive car park, even with toilet facilities, ice-cream van and maybe a stall selling teas, coffee and sandwiches.

This would also ease the traffic jams in the village itself, by siphoning traffic down The Glen to the new car park.

As I often park in The Glen I have become on quite friendly terms with many of the residents, and I know they would not want anyone to interpret their proposals as selfish - they just feel aggrieved that there has been the odd driver thoughtless enough to obstruct their driveway.

But by prohibiting the rest of us from parking would virtually turn the Glen Beach into a private retreat as, half the time, it is not possible to access it from the harbour owing to the tide. Few of us would relish the walk from the village up St. Bride's Hill to reach it, especially with small children and all the attendant beach sundries.

I trust a solution may be found so that everyone may enjoy the delights of this lovely area.
