A drama unfolded on one of Tenby's beaches on Wednesday when a young girl was airlifted to hospital after falling from the harbour wall. A large crowd of people watched the emergency services deal with the incident which occurred shortly before 12.30 pm. The town's coastguard rescue team were dispatched to the scene after MRSC Milford Haven coastguard received information from ambulance control requesting the unit's assistance. An ambulance from Pembroke Dock responded to the incident due to a prior tasking of the local Tenby crew and ambulance control also advised the MRSC that the air ambulance was tasked as well. On arrival of the CRT at the harbour, the location of the girl was found not to be at the pier as feared, but at the Harbour beach slipway. The seven-year-old girl had fallen approximately 15 feet from the corner of the harbour car park above the slipway access onto the Harbour beach. Unfortunately, she was then moved to the car park area above the slipway without considering possible injuries. As soon as the rescue services located her position, she was immediately assessed and her neck and spine stabilised as a precaution. The area of the Harbour beach was cleared of members of the public in order to facilitate a landing site for air ambulance 'Helimed 57A', on arrival of which, the girl was prepared for evacuation to Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, from where she was later released with no serious injury. The girl was on a day trip to Tenby with her family who are holidaying at Moylegrove, North Pembrokeshire, and are from Thatcham in Berkshire.

Crowds line the walls of the harbour as the drama unfolds on the beach below.
