A 12-year-old girl had to be airlifted to Withybush Hospital on Sunday after she fell from cliffs at Coppet Hall point.

The girl, from Saundersfoot, and her younger sister, had attempted to climb the cliff face, but ran into trouble around 70 feet up. The girl fell and sustained a fractured right leg and cuts to her left leg and face.

Her younger sister was left clinging to the rock face, on a ledge, before a member of the public, Mr. Keith Marshall, of Llandybie, near Ammanford, who was on the beach with his family, bravely climbed up to help and administer first aid to the girl still on the cliff, who had injured her knee.

Paramedics were on the scene by the time the Coastguard arrived. The girl who had fallen was put on a spinal board and both she and her sister were airlifted to hospital for treatment, accompanied by their parents.

Mr. Marshall, who is to receive a letter of thanks from Milford Haven Coastguards, was also taken off the cliff by the Sea King helicopter from RAF Chivenor, which had been on exercise in the area.

Coastguard sector officer Dave Miller stated that the Coppet Hall point was very precarious and full of loose shale rock, which made it hard to climb. The gully area was quite sheer and could cause problems to the most experienced of climbers.
