The Pembrokeshire Triathlon Club's recent Introduction to Running Course saw 26 new members take to the streets of Haverfordwest to learn about run training and staying injury free.
The hope is to see some of the new members taking part in the events organised by the club and representing Pembrokeshire in events across Wales. With the popularity of triathlon still growing, the club is holding a record number of events in 2010.
On April 11, the Pembrokeshire Duathlon will return to Neyland, sponsored by Dragon LNG. This early season race is well supported by members of local running and cycling clubs looking for a slightly different challenge. There is a special prize for the best fancy dress - a hard fought battle in 2009 between a fairy and a sumo wrestler.
There are two events especially for junior triathletes on May 16 and June 12, based in Pembroke Leisure Centre. The club will also be holding a small triathlon for its members on May 2 - this is aimed at introducing newer members to the fun of racing.
New members are always welcome to join the club's training sessions at any time, whether it be to get fit, train for a race, or run with new people.
The TriExercise Pembrokeshire Coast Triathlon is set to host the Welsh Triathlon Championships on July 3 in Broad Haven. After reviving the event in 2009, it is hoped it will grow in popularity in 2010. The 1500m openwater swim, 43km cycle and 10.2km run makes for a challenging course, but as always the emphasis is on taking part and having fun. All of the events have relay categories to encourage as many people to take part as possible.
The final event is the Pembrokeshire Half Marathon and 10k on September 26, sponsored by Sout Hook LNG. Now in its 11th year, the race will continue to support Adam's Bucketful of Hope charity.
