A community photography competition has been launched, inviting local residents to capture their best snap of Saundersfoot’s iconic Lonely Tree.

It is suggested that to be in with a chance of winning the £60 prize, the image of the beautiful Monterey Cypress tree, which sits on the village’s beach, should be relatively close up and to include Scar Rock on which it resides.

Saundersfoot's ‘Lonely Tree’ Preservation Society were awarded funding recently as part of the Saundersfoot Community Treasure Chest project coordinated by PAVS. The Society was formed with the intention of preserving the Lonely Tree for generations to come.

The £490 funding is to be used to engage all age groups in the community and to bring them together over a shared love for their iconic wonder of nature.

In the coming months this will be achieved via several competitions including one in association with Saundersfoot CP School. Not only will there be motivational competitions but for added value to the project the prize winning inspirational images will be used in an interpretation project and to further the cause for preserving the communities beloved tree.

The competition is for Saundersfoot residents in the SA69 postcode aged 11 and over; whilst the Society also hopes to organise a competition later in the year for supporters that do not reside in Saundersfoot.

Simply send your photograph entry of the ‘Lonely Tree’ to the Save Saundersfoot’s Lonely Tree Facebook Group or ideally post directly within the group, using the hashtag #LonelyTreePhoto2022. This can be done on behalf of a Saundersfoot resident if they are not on Facebook.

Alternatively, email your image with proof of residing in Saundersfoot to [email protected].

You can submit more than one submission and up to one photograph a week until the competition closes on September 30, 2022.

Entrants must agree to let the Society use photographs for publicity in relation to the project which will help with the cause of saving the tree for generations to come.

Finalists will be announced by October 1, with all entries to be judged by a panel representing various age groups from the Saundersfoot Community. Good luck and get snapping!
