Pembrokeshire's Torch Theatre has announced that it is recruiting new members to join its board of directors.
The theatre, which has been producing plays and presenting touring shows in Milford Haven since 1977, completed a lottery-supported £5.4m development project in March 2008, improvements which have gained widespread public approval.
With a new gallery, studio theatre and café, the organisation's output and services have expanded dramatically in the past 18 months, and now it is moving forward to realise new ambitions over the next three years. The Torch is one of the links in the Arts Council of Wales' chain of regional performing arts centres, providing a mix of in-house shows and presenting a wealth of high quality touring productions. It is also a key cinema provider, and provides education and youth theatre projects across Pembrokeshire.
The Torch is looking for new board members who have the right skills to help the organisation expand and develop its work.
Chair Tim Arthur, who has been involved with the theatre since it opened, said: "We're looking for dynamic, enthusiastic people with a passion for the arts, who'll take an active interest in the work of the board... people from all walks of life who can help us achieve the right mix of skills, knowledge and experience. It's a great time to join us: we have so many things we want to achieve as an organisation, aiming to serve our community effectively, and looking forward to growth in our business too."
The board recently said 'farewell and thank you' to long-standing member Barrie Woolmer, who retired during the summer. Mr .Woolmer had been involved with the Torch from its earliest days, and his outstanding service was marked by a gathering of board members and staff during the Torch Theatre Company's recent run of the restoration comedy She Stoops to Conquer.
Full details on what the Torch is looking for, and how to apply, are available from the Torch Theatre website http://www.torchtheatre.co.uk">www.torchtheatre.co.uk, with applications open until November 9.
