Oriel y Parc Gallery and Visitor Centre in St. David's is the location for a weekend of creative workshops on Saturday and Sunday, July 25 and 26.

Haverfordwest-based community arts organisation, spacetocreate, will be running workshops in mask-making, inspired by the 150 carved stone corbels of mythical beasts, wild animals and human heads that adorn the Bishop's Palace in St. David's.

Organised by Cadw and the Arts Council of Wales as part of their Cauldrons and Furnaces project, it is part of the Cultural Olympiad programme, and is one of many events taking place over the same weekend across the UK in the run-up to the London Olympics in 2012.

Spacetocreate artist Pip Lewis said: "It is exciting to be facilitating the first visual arts event in Pembrokeshire to mark London 2012. The mask-making workshops are the first of a programme of events being facilitated by spacetocreate community arts, with workshops continuing at Oriel y Parc for the two schools in St. David's beginning in the autumn."

The workshops, which are free of charge, run from 10 am - 4.30 pm each day, allowing the participants to learn various mask-making techniques, including casting, painting and finishing.

Each participant will be able to take a mask home, while some masks will be kept for future use during events at the Bishop's Palace as part of the Cauldrons and Furnaces project over the next four years.

Places can be booked by contacting Pip Lewis on 07964 961283.
