As part of its commitment to community safety and engagement, the Pembroke Neighbourhood Policing Team is launching a Watch Scheme in the St. Mary's South ward of the town.
The first initial meeting is on Tuesday, May 28, at 6 pm, at The Foundry House in Pembroke.
Neighbourhood Watch is one of the biggest and most successful crime prevention initiatives ever. It is about communities and getting together with neighbours to cut crime and improve the links between your community and the police.
However, Neighbourhood Watch is not just about reducing crime, it's about creating communities who care. It brings local people together and can make a real contribution to improving their lives.
PCSO Carla Thomas said: "Anyone can join and it will be a great forum to meet people in your community and voice any concerns. Once your Neighbourhood Watch is registered you will be allocated a local Neighbourhood Policing Officer who will be your liaison. You will be invited to attend meetings for your area and be informed of crime levels and trends, and you will receive regular newsletters and leaflets and advice on security."
Members are encouraged to be alert and respond to what is happening in their neighbourhood - it is not expected for members to patrol the streets.
PCSO Thomas added: "You will be given some practical steps you can take to protect your home and your property, such as post coding your property. If you are interested, it is highly likely that your neighbours will want to get involved too. So we would welcome as many members of the St. Mary's Ward to attend. Alternatively, you can contact me by calling 101. We look forward to seeing you!"
