Preparations are well underway for one of the most popular annual festivals in West Wales. Pembrokeshire Fish Week has flourished since it started six years ago, with over 40 events now taking place over the week. This year's festival, which will be held between June 25 and July 3, is packed full of family-friendly activities around Pembrokeshire's spectacular coastline, including seashore safaris, boat trips, coastal rambles, cookery demonstrations, seafood brunches, gourmet fish meals and wildlife evenings. New events this year include From Tackle to Table at Llys y Fran Reservoir and Country Park, which aims to give people tips on both catching and cooking trout. While keen anglers will be able to compete for prizes in the Open Coarse Fishing Championship at Holgan Farm, Llawhaden. Other highlights include the appearance of celebrity chef Huw Fearnley-Whittinstall, who will be showing off his cooking skills at two sessions at the Torch Theatre in Milford Haven on Wednesday, June 29. And, following the success of last year's contest, people will once again be able to put their fishy inspirations on paper for a second poetry competition. The verse competition is open to all ages with prizes for the winners of each age category. Poems can be as long or as short as the muse inspires, but they must be about fish. "Pembrokeshire Fish Week aims to celebrate the abundance of fish and seafood found around the county's coastline," said Kate Morgan, food and craft officer at Pembrokeshire County Council. "The event is designed to boost the fishing industry and raise awareness of the wonderful fish and sea food available from our coast and rivers. "It also aims to boost out-of-season tourism and business opportunities in Britain's only coastal national park." Held every year, Pembrokeshire Fish Week has grown steadily in size and impact since it started six years ago. Last year, over 160 businesses took part. Pembrokeshire Fish Week is organised by Pembrokeshire County Council and supported by the Welsh Development Agency and Objective One.
