If you've ever wanted to try fishing but never known where to start - help is on hand from Pembrokeshire Fish Week.

The popular festival - held from June 27 to July 5 - offers several beginner and improve skills sessions for both adults and youngsters at fisheries across the county.

Learn-to-fish sessions will be held in coarse fishing at former world champion Ian Heaps's Holgan Farm Coarse Fishery at Llawhaden, as well as at Wolfsdale Pitt near Camrose.

Coaching sessions in general fishing with members of the Pembrokeshire Federation of Angling Coaches will be held at Llys y Fran Country Park near Clarbeston Road and in fly fishing at Puddleduck Trout Fishery, Freystrop and White House Mill Trout Fishery at Lampeter Velfrey.

There's also a coaching day in sea angling on July 4 at Fishguard Harbour held as part of the StenaLine Sea Angling Festival, with coaching from members of the Welsh Surf Casting Team and the Welsh Federation of Sea Anglers.

Or if you're really adventurous, you could learn to sea fish from a kayak at TYF Adventure, St. David's.

For more experienced anglers there's also plenty of competitions.

The FBM Holidays Pembrokeshire Fish Week Coarse Fishing Championship takes place throughout the week at Holgan Farm Coarse Fishery in Llawhaden with a first prize of £300.

And the popular Stena Line Sea Angling Festival organised by the Welsh Federation of Sea Anglers also takes place for the third year in a row.

Its PENNS Points catch and release competition will be held at Fishguard Harbour Breakwater on Saturday, July 4, with a first prize of £750.

Meanwhile for anglers, who simply want to fish, there are plenty of permits available including offers at Llys y Fran Country Park, and an open river fishing day at Treffgarne Angling Centre.

Or, if they would rather head for the open sea, there are Mackerel Fishing trips from Tenby and Solva as well as Catch your Own and Cook it opportunities from Dale.

If on the other hand you would rather watch anglers at work, Fly Fishing and Casting Demonstrations will be held at St. Dogmaels.

The Treffgarne centre is also hosting a special fishing day for those with disabilities on Wednesday, July 1. It's organised by Pembrokeshire Anglers Association and supported by the Environment Agency Wales.

Pembrokeshire Fish Week is organised by Pembrokeshire County Council and part funded through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007-2013, which is financed by the EU and the Assembly Government.

It will be launched on Saturday, June 27, and ends on July 5.
