An unusual gathering took place at the Fourcroft Hotel, Tenby, recently. It comprised a reunion of 20 plus geologists from all over the world, whose common bond was that they had researched, at some time during the last 30 years, on the beautiful red rocks (Old Red Sandstone), of Pembrokeshire. This reunion was to celebrate the 30th anniversary and to receive a new publication on the ORS which was delivered to the Fourcroft by courier from John Wiley and Sons. A wonderful weekend, on the rocks and in the hotel, was enjoyed by all. The event was organised by Prof. Brian Williams, a native of Swansea, and now at Aberdeen University, and it included geologists who had flown in from Calgary, Edmonton, Tennessee and Houston and also 'driven down the M4' from Cardiff, Bristol, Reading and London! The one thing that brought them all together is their love of Pembrokeshire geology! The Fourcroft Hotel has been the spiritual home of these researchers for three decades, and it hosted a magnificent reunion dinner on the Saturday night.
