In the final medal round of the Tenby Seniors Winter Eclectic, Geoffrey Aston finished in style to take first place before departing across the pond for a golfing holiday in Florida. Despite the clear sunny conditions, the course proved a bit tricky with a chill south-easterly wind cutting across from the sea. This was made worse by the ponderous progress of play from some of the players, with it taking two-and-half hours to do the front nine for the back half of the field. Of the 37 entries, 13 made no returns. Such was the frustration! Brian Morgan, who was off in the second group, set the early pace with a net 71 (gross 87). This lead was maintained only for a shortwhile, before Geoff Aston turned in his competition winning score of 70 (gross 83) - and what's more, had some of his putts rolled in, it could have been lower. With the CSS being 71, this earned Geoff a one shot reduction in handicap from 13 to 12. A meticulous round of 72 (gross 95) from Derek Bath saw him claim third spot. This week's Tenby Talking Pages prize for nearest the pin, which was on the 17th hole, was taken by Stan Hudson. He also took the only two's prize by slotting home the putt. Next Tuesday's competition is a four-club stableford challenge; one of which must be a putter. There are already 38 entries at the time this report was composed. If you wish to join in this one, please add your name to the end of the list. Afterwards in the clubhouse, there will be a presentation to the RNIB for monies raised from the nearest hole events started this winter.
