A foodie fundraiser featuring some of the UK’s top chefs, including Allister Barsby, Grove of Narberth, Will Holland from Coast, Saundersfoot and Hywel Griffith, of Beach House in Gower (pictured above), has raised an incredible £150,000 for life-limited children and their families.
Chefs’ Night Out took over the kitchens of St. David’s Hotel in Cardiff Bay for an exclusive night of fine food and wine in aid of children’s hospice Ty Hafan. The event’s success brings the total raised by Chefs’ Night Out to more than half-a-million pounds since its inception in 2010.
During the evening, each table of diners was treated to a delicious meal cooked by one of the chefs - but they didn’t know who would be cooking for them until service began.
In a special twist, the stellar line-up of 15 chefs offered their culinary services off-menu in an after-dinner auction. Generous diners bid for their favourite chef - with the prize being a dinner party for 10 at their own home cooked by the chef at a later date.
Ty Hafan is a charity close to the hearts of organisers David Loosemore and Huw Edwards, who started Chefs’ Night Out to raise funds for the children’s hospice and the vital support it provides for life-limited children and their families.
David Loosemore said: “Raising £150,000 for such a worthwhile cause as Ty Hafan is both an inspiring and humbling experience. We are so grateful to the generosity of our guests, our chefs and all the helpers involved. The Chefs’ Night Out family continues to grow and we hope to host many more dinners in the future.”
Huw Edwards added: “We are continually amazed by not only our guests in raising £150,000 for Ty Hafan, but also the generosity of the chefs, restaurants and their suppliers in giving not only their time, but also all of their produce and wine for free. It really does make the whole event succeed.”
Neil Kedward, managing director of the Seren Collection, said: “Ty Hafan is a charity that we have worked very closely with for many years, so we were delighted to be involved in this astonishing event and especially honoured that our three chefs took part in 2017.
“Chefs Night Out has established itself as a hugely successful charity event for this fabulous Welsh charity and we feel quite honoured to be invited to take part.”
