Two local gardens will be open to the public this weekend as part of the National Gardens Scheme.
The scheme supports the caring charities of Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Help the Hospices, Crossroads (Caring for Carers), The Queen's Nursing Institute and The Royal Fund for Gardeners Children.
It also supports local charities nominated by garden owners.
So by supporting the National Gardens Scheme you will not only enjoy an afternoon out, but also give to someone in need.
One of the gardens open on Sunday is Dyffryn Farm, Lampeter Velfrey, which will be open between 1 and 5 pm.
This garden is a wonderful example of a garden with 'no hard landscaping'.
A garden of considerable size and with areas on different levels, Sally Polson has used the natural landscape to create her areas of 70 varieties of bamboos, grasses, herbaceous plants and shrubs, pond and stream planting with a backcloth of a secluded valley.
Sally is a great plants woman and sells plants from her garden all year round. So go and have a delicious tea and a peer at what she has to offer. Children are welcome.
The other garden open is Coed-y-Ffynnon, Lampeter Velfrey, which will be open 2-6 pm
Owned by Col Gilbertson for many years, this could be his last year for opening to the public.
A rose enthusiast, he has planted over 140 varieties of old-fashioned roses in this garden. The roses are at their best from early June to early July and so if you need ideas for your roses, this is the man to ask. It's a rural, relaxed setting with lots of rough grass, but the blooms are wonderful. Teas also available here.
