Afon Taf Gardening Club's annual show held on September 7 was a great success. It was held in a new venue, Whitland Memorial Hall, and was the first such event for Mike Bell, show chairman.
And to cap it all, the weather prior to the show had been so good, many gardens were racing towards autumn ahead of time. The displays of fruit, vegetables and flowers were a credit to the enthusiastic club members and were justifiably praised by the judges, Mr. Geoff Taylor and Mr. D. Huw Jones.
Engraved cups will be presented at the next club meeting on October 18 in the Town Hall.
Results were as follows:
Probus Club and £5 to the winner of the Flower Section: Elfrida Jones.
Ivy Webb Cup and £2.50 for best entry in the Flower Section: Olive Davies.
Lilian Wilby Cup and £5 to the winner of the Vegetable Section: William George.
Trophy and £2.50 for best entry in the Vegetable Section: William George (carrots).
David Davies Memorial Cup for best cabbage: not awarded, no entries.
Trophy for best floral table decoration (F21): Olive Davies.
Trophy for best collection of fruit (V29): Peter Schofield.
£5 to competitor with highest points, tabling five or less entries: Elizabeth O'Neill.
£5 to competitor with highest points, tabling six to 10 entries: Peter Schofield.
£3 to competitor winning class V27: Peter Schofield.
£2.50 to competitor winning class V33: Elfrida Jones.
