A Garden Party in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief was held in the lovely private gardens of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Scourfield Lewis, of Colby Lodge, Amroth, last Sunday.

Over 100 guests enjoyed sunshine and a sumptuous tea in the idyllic garden in the valley below Colby Woodland Gardens. As the afternoon progressed, birdsong and the playing of the fountain were succeeded by jazz from Two from Tenby: Brian Jobson on keyboard and Dick Williams on cornet.

The delicious tea was prepared by committee members, but the serene atmosphere of the occasion belied the amount of work, undertaken by so many in various ways, that had gone into the preparation of the event.

Cynthia Scourfield Lewis, who is chairman of the committee, thanked all those who attended and who made the Garden Party such a resounding success. She also thanked those who made generous monetary donations.

Mrs. Scourfield Lewis reminded guests that the number of people living with cancer in the UK is increasing, so funds for cancer care, and indeed education to prevent cancer, are desperately needed.

She then introduced Jill Foster, organiser of the National Gardens Scheme for Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire, who encouraged guests to take the opportunity to visit the many very special private gardens which are open to the public under the scheme.

Mrs. Foster's speech at the Garden Party was most appropriate as Macmillan Cancer Relief is one of the main recipients of funds raised by the scheme.
