As part of the continuing commemorations of the centenary of the First World War, the official opening of the WWI Commemoration Garden within Parc Dr. Owen, Whitland, will appropriately take place on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, June 25.

The ceremony will start at 11.30 am in the presence of Miss Sara Edwards, Her Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Dyfed, and representatives of local organisations and groups.

It is hoped that you willl be able to join them at the opening of the garden.

Armed Forces Day, meanwhile, is a day when the country has the opportunity to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to service families and from veterans to cadets.

The Whitland and Llanboidy Branch of the Royal British Legion and the Whitland 2420 Squadron of the Air Training Corps, after taking part in the WWI Commemoration Garden opening ceremony, will march on a parade through the town. The parade will end at the Whitland ATC, where there will be an Open Day with BBQ and refreshments.

Details of the parade route, timetable for events, etc. can be found on the whitlandmemorialhall.org.uk website and Whitland Memorial Hall page on Facebook.
