LLANYBYDDER 20 pts. PEMBROKE DOCK QUINS 14
The Quins bowed out of the Swalec Bowl on Saturday, despite being 14-10 in front at the interval.
The homesters quickly raced into a 10-point lead inside the first 15 minutes through a try by Aled Evans and a penalty and conversion by outside-half Eifion Evans.
This seemed to spur the Quins into action, and following a poor tap back from a lineout, they stormed through, enabling Neil Brace to score halfway out, which he converted himself.
After more Quins pressure playing down the slope, scrum-half Dai Rees squeezed his way over in the corner and, with the help of a wonderful touchline conversion from Neil Brace, things looked rosy for the Quins at the break
The second half, however, was a different story, with the Quins virtually spending the entire half on the defensive. Something had to give and the homesters duly added two more tries through Rees Bowen and Eifion Evans, to send them into the next round.
A mention must be made of the Quins defence with a fine rearguard action, with exceptional displays from Darren Griffiths and Stefan Halwood. The Quins can take heart from the fact that, although they had many players out of position, they fought to the end.
