Over 100 people attended a public meeting in Saundersfoot on Monday to discuss the future of the Barbecue building on the Harbour. Attended by Pembrokeshire County Council's director of development, Mr. Roger Barrett-Evans, the meeting was organised by the village's community council to thrash out the authority's proposals to sell the former coal mining office on the open market. Their idea comes after previously promising the building to the community council who hoped to turn it into a museum. Said Clr. Mrs. Rosemary Hayes afterwards: "The ball is now back in the community council's court and we have got to decide on one of two options. "Either we pay £250,000 outright for the site or we lease the building at a peppercorn rent, but we will then still have to pay to do all the maintenance work. But before making a final decision, another public meeting will be called for the people of Saundersfoot to have their say on the option that is chosen. "Our decision has got to reflect what the people of Saundersfoot want," added Clr. Mrs. Hayes. Before then, though, a meeting is to held in the next week between the community council, the Harbour Commissioners and the Historical Society. The Chamber for Tourism is also expected to be invited.
