The very successful Texaco sponsored Pembrokeshire Women's County Football Squad concluded their summer programme with an emphatic victory over English premier side, Keynsham Ladies last weekend.

The game was played on the newly-laid pitch at Clarbeston Road, and the Pembrokeshire team made full use of the spacious ground with their passing ability and movement.

The visitors had no answer to the surging runs of wide players Laura Roberts and Nicola Aston, with the cutting edge of forwards Marie Davies, Caryl Davies and Emma Rowell combining with the very solid defence superbly marshalled by Sharon Rodgers.

All the players contributed to a fine game played in a true spirit, giving referee Alan Buckfield. A very easy game to officiate.

Goals came at regular intervals, finishing with a thoroughly deserved 7-1 victory to the home side.

Coach and FAW football development officer Gerry Rigby said: "This county squad is the best that we have ever had, both in terms of its ability and just as important, the spirit of the group. Pembrokeshire can be justly proud of these players. With six of them already figuring at national level, they can go from strength to strength."

After match refreshments were provided by the Cross Inn, Clarbeston Road. The Texaco Pembrokeshire League would like to thank the very kind assistance of the committee of Clarbeston Road who stepped in at the last minute to enable this fixture to take place.
