A further meeting supporting a‘Plastic-Free Tenby’ initiative will take place next week.
Recently over 50 people met to discuss how to move the scheme forward for the resort, calling for individuals, organisations and businesses to get involved who want to reduce the use of the single-use plastics that are causing so much pollution in our seas and on our beaches.
The meeting in Tenby heard about the Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) led Plastic Free Coastlines scheme and how Tenby can become accredited as a plastic-free town.
This will involve organising beach cleans, businesses swapping single-use plastics for more sustainable alternatives, and establishing a local steering group.
Volunteers showed their support for the initiative last month by joining in with a clean-up of Tenby’s South Beach, organised by local store the White Stuff and members of Tenby Surf Lifesaving Club.
At Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby Town Council, Clr. Laurence Blackhall told his colleagues that the next ‘Plastic-Free Tenby’ meeting would take place on Wednesday (March 7), at 5 pm, at Caffi Pura alongside the De Valence Pavilion in Upper Frog Street.
Clr. Blackhall said that the recent litter pick on the South Beach had been ‘very successful’ and a further beach clean would be organised soon.
