The funeral service will take place tomorrow of a long-standing and dedicated volunteer with Tenby Sea Cadets - Lieutenant Roy Broxham RNR.

Roy passed away peacefully at Withybush Hospital on Wednesday, September 13. He was aged aged 78.

Roy will be sadly missed by his wife Carina, son Rory, daughters Kirsten and Elspet, along with grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Posting on social media following the news, the Tenby Sea Cadets organisation stated: “It is with much sadness that we share the news of our former Commanding Officer, friend, supporter and one of the units most dedicated volunteers passing - Lieutenant (SCC) Roy Broxham RNR Rtd.

Roy gave over 25 years to the role of Commanding Officer with the organisation, before retiring back in 2018. His wife wife Carina, a Civilian Instructor with the Sea Cadets also retired too at the same time.

“His commitment to Tenby Sea Cadets was unquestionable and had such powerful impact to many young people’s and adult volunteers lives through his time,” continued the organisation.

“Our thoughts are with his beloved wife, Carina and family during this sad time.

“Fair winds and following seas Lt Broxham. RIP Sir!”

Tenby RNLI also paid tribute, stating: “Tenby Lifeboat Station is saddened to hear of the passing of Roy Broxham - someone who played such a large part in the life of Tenby Harbour.

“Deepest sympathies are extended to Roy's wife Carina.”

The funeral service will take place on Thursday, September 28, at 2 pm at St Mary's Church in Tenby, followed by committal at Parc Gwyn Crematorium, Narberth at 3.15 pm.

There will be immediate family flowers only with donations in memory of Roy made payable to Cancer Research, Wales c/o Funeral Directors Messrs W & M J Rossiter & Sons Ltd The Old Rectory, The Norton, Tenby, SA70 8AB or Landsker House, 21 Station Road, Narberth, SA67 7DR.

County councillor for Tenby’s south ward, Cllr Sam Skyrme-Blackhall said: “A true gentleman and someone who gave so much to Tenby Sea Cadets and all those children whom he inspired over the years.

Former Tenby Town Councillor Tish Rossiter remarked: “Sorry to hear this sad news. Such a gentleman. Thinking of Carina and families at this time.”
