The Cawdor Café at Stackpole Walled Garden is hosting a fundraising concert for MENCAP this (Friday) evening.

Performing will be folk duo Slid, namely Martin Leamon and Sille Ilves, who formed their unique Welsh -Estonian collaboration in 2001, having performed at the Viljandi Folkmusic Festival. Since then they have developed a truly original fusion of two different musical cultures; rooted in tradition yet thoroughly modern, they create timeless music.

Sild is the Estonian word meaning bridge; this signifies the joining of these two beautiful lands and cultures.

They create intimate, powerful performances whereby the listener can lose themselves completely in the soothing swirling beauty of the music. Sille is one of the finest fiddlers in her native Estonia, as well as her adopted home of Wales. She is also the leading exponent of the Hiiu-Kannel (bowed harp) and also skilfully performs vocal acrobatics with grace and ease!

Sille and Martin are also founder members of the dance band 'The Gower All Stars' and have been playing for and teaching dances throughout South Wales and Herefordshire for the last three or four years and have managed to inspire many to take up traditional folk dancing.

The concert starts at 7.30 pm, while tickets, which are £10 each, are available on the door or can be reserved by calling 01646 661442. Children are welcome and will be admitted free.

There will also be a lovely selection of homemade soup, cakes and snacks available, as well as tea, coffee and soft drinks. Feel free to also bring a tipple, as the café does not have an alcohol licence.
