Fancy dress fundraisers ‘rallied’ around this week for a road trip to Tenby in a convoy of classic cars for a good cause.

Rally Challenges UK - an official supporting organisation of the Teenage Cancer Trust - are tasked with buying old cars for under £400, and transforming them into amazing creations to drive them on trips across the UK in aid of the charity.

On Tuesday, a convoy of eight classics cars, featuring versions of vehicles made famous by the movies, such as Back to the Future and Ghostbusters, arrived at the resort in a procession of colour and noise.

Members of the procession also filled their time in Tenby with a traditional sandcastle competition on the North Beach, in full fancy dress, before parading the vehicles around the town centre.

The stop in Pembrokeshire was part of the team’s longest, toughest and most spectacular adventure yet - a ‘Head 2 Head’ five day, 1,000-mile road trip from Essex, covering Yorkshire, the Peak District, and Snowdonia too.

“Since 2013, we have created two amazing road trips and raised over £17,000 for the TCT along the way,” said Simon Chapman, co-creator of Rally Challenges UK, who considers Tenby as his second home, after first visiting the resort as a young child in the 1980s with his family.

“Like so many good plans, it all started in a pub and was the idea encouraged by an ale or two! We knew we could do it and we knew it would be just like it was on the TV with Jezza and Co...and although it’s not quite like Top Gear, it’s not far from it!

“It’s an adventure like no other and makes a difference for a charity that we feel so strongly about,” he added.
