Funding is being sought to transform a Pembrokeshire play area.

The Kilgetty Playground was closed last year in order for the play equipment to be removed as many of the items were no longer suitable for repair.

The ground is now being levelled in preparation for new equipment to be installed.

The old fence has been removed and a new fence is due to be erected very soon.

The new fencing will be the same style as the one that surrounds the whole common.

The Council have decided to enlarge the area for the playground so that more equipment can be installed.

Quotes are being sought from suppliers and recent quotes have suggested estimated costs up to £150,000.

Kilgetty and Begelly Community Council do not have sufficient funds and so are seeking to apply for funding through various grant schemes including the 106 funds (paid to Pembrokeshire County Council by developers) that are available for the Kilgetty and Begelly area.

To achieve this the Community Council has decided to phase the installation with phase one being this year.

The hope is to achieve a play area for the community which will also reflect the area’s history of mining and links with the sea.

It is envisaged that this will be achieved within 3-4 phases.

The diagrams indicate what is possible but actual equipment has yet to be decided on.

In addition to the grant applications, funds have already been made available from donations and the selling of Folly Farm tickets, with further fundraising planned in the community with the Kilgetty Summer Fete taking place on Sunday, August 27, and also at an event to ne held at the Begelly Arms on Saturday, September 2.

The money from these two events will be added to the Kilgetty Playground funds, which will help the Community Council to purchase the initial equipment for children to use.
