Pembrokeshire residents have been thanked for their efforts in raising money for the Children's Hospital for Wales. Fund-raisers in the county have donated £160,000 to the Noah's Ark Appeal - one of the highest amounts in Wales. At a reception at County Hall hosted by Pembrokeshire County Council chairman, Clr. Clive Collins, the director of the Noah's Ark Appeal Suzanne Mainwaring and the chairman of its trustees, Lyn Jones, personally thanked Pembrokeshire's fund-raising committee. Committee chairman Malcolm Green accepted a certificate and limited edition print of the new hospital to commemorate their efforts. "The amount raised in Pembrokeshire is way beyond our initial target and this is due to the unbelievable generosity and hard work of Pembrokeshire people," said Malcolm Green. "It has been particularly pleasing to see how the raised money has been spent - the dream of a children's hospital for Wales has become a reality." The new Children's Hospital for Wales was opened on St. David's Day last year and treats 20,000 out- patients and 8,000 in-patients a year. Money raised by Pembrokeshire's fund-raising committee will fund an eight bed day unit at the oncology wards at the new hospital. Suzanne Mainwaring said the support from Pembrokeshire would make a big difference to local children. "They have helped to ensure that children from across Wales will be treated in a world-class facility for generations to come. We are overwhelmed by their incredible generosity." The Noah's Ark Appeal continues to fundraise to support additional projects at the hospital.
