1st St. Issell's Guides spent the weekend camping at Scolton together with Guide units from across the county.

They had a great, fun-packed weekend - which they have summarised in the poem below!

A weekend of camping at Scolton

For Saundersfoot Guides, that was the plan

But how could we get our kit there?

Without the new yellow van?

Parents, friends, Guides all rallied around

And by Friday all was on site

With the rain and the hard work

There was not much sleep the first night!

A very brave mum stayed with us

So we could all take part

In this year's County Guide camp

Apologies for the early start!

The crows woke us up very early

At the start of the Carnival day

Rainbows, Brownies and Guides had such fun

As the Morris dancers lead the way

A number of activities the girls all did try

Learning to belly dance on the lawn,

Making wax seals and armpit fudge

We soon forgot we'd got up at dawn

On the fabulous new altar fire

Sian cooked our dinner

Mash, sausages and beans with pancakes

The menu was a winner!

A campfire later in the evening

Under the stars so clear and bright

Marshmallows were toasted golden brown

With hot chocolate, a very good night!

The sun shone again on Sunday

A pet show was the start of the fun

With a lion, giraffe, sheep, zebra and peacock

It's not clear which creature won!

Then into teams with new friends

For Guide Olympics in the field

We're not sure how many medals

The welly throwing did yield!

Another campfire in the evening

We gathered around the lamp

A talent show and lots of songs

With our friends from around the camp

Although the evening was great fun

We were lucky to survive

Despite the insect cream and spray

The midges were eating us alive!

Very soon, Monday arrived

With a clear blue sky

We packed the tents and gear up quickly

As everything was dry

With big thanks to all who helped

We give you a very big cheer

With Guiding Centenary celebrations starting soon

We may do it again next year?!
