Children at an after-school playgroup are getting their 'five a day' with a new healthy eating and nutrition programme. Neyland Kids Club has been running 'Active Afternoon' sessions since September, thanks to a donation from Valero.
Playgroup leader Lisa Beckett said: "We try to make the sessions fun and the children love learning about new types of fruits and vegetables and getting to taste them. Each child is building up a healthy eating recipe book, which they will get to keep. We've also purchased sports equipment and toys so that the children can play outside and exercise, which is really important for development."
Run every week night at Neyland Community School, Neyland Kids Club currently accommodates up to 16 children, although there are plans to expand this to over 30.
Jane James, Valero manager of policy, government and public affairs, said: "We all know how important it is to encourage healthy lifestyles, especially for our children, and Lisa and her team of playworkers are performing a real service to the community with these sessions. Their hard work and dedication is something that Valero is proud to support."
