Pembrokeshire College was taken over by silliness last week when the boys from Menter Iaith Sir Benfro and Radio Cymru DJ Marc Griffiths took centre stage to host the Silly ‘Steddfod event, with adjudicator Eifion Daniels in the hot-seat.
Students had a fun-filled afternoon, with many of them competing in an Eisteddfod for the first time.
A variety of competitions such as the gargling choir, the 30-second challenge to dress in as many items of clothing as possible and the popular task of applying make-up while wearing a blindfold were the biggest crowd pleasers.
Even camera-shy students were able to take part in homework competitions, including creating a mood board, writing a limerick with a short story competition for the prestigious Charing of the Bard.
Points were allocated per college faculty with the Health, Care, Services and Independent Living Skills Faculty winning first prize with a hefty 312 points!
Second place went to the Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Science and Skills with 170 points, followed by the Engineering and Construction Faculty, who came third with 66 points. Congratulations to A-level student, Katie Warbrick on being crowned the Charing of the Bard.
Pembrokeshire College bilingual champion, Lisa O’Connor, helped organise the event with Welsh language development officer, Janice Morgan, who were pleased to see so many students taking part.
“It’s great to see so many students getting involved in this event which is a twist on one of our most treasured traditions”, said Lisa.
In true Eisteddfod style, the competition drew to a close with a rendition of the Welsh National Anthem.
