Following a very moving and successful Easter concert in Goodwick with the very fine orchestra of Pembrokeshire Young Musicians, the Dyfed Choir now turns its impressive expertise and attention to sharing the stage with Pembrokeshire's very young musicians and choristers.
A Gala Fashion Show is being staged by Pembrokeshire businesses, Mr. Roberts (men and boys bridal hire - Pembroke Dock), The Bridal Collection (wedding gowns - Main Street, Pembroke), Weekenders (casual wear - 'Oculus' Solva) B.A.S.E. (sportswear - West Street, Fishguard) and Bonkers (evening gowns - High Street, Haverfordwest).
Sageston School will be opening the fashion show, which will be held at the pavilion on Carew Airfield tomorrow (Saturday) evening.
The Dyfed Choir joined by Cosheston, Stackpole, Wiston and Spittal Junior Schools will present the live backing music for the show. They are performing the now famous 'Adiemus' work written by Karl Jenkins, a Welsh composer from Swansea with excerpts from 'Carmina Burana'.
Following the hour-long fashion show will be a feast of fun for all the family. The whole family can wander in the sunshine, enjoy refreshments to the sounds of the Tenby Brass Band, The Greenhill Comprehensive School Jazz Band and the raucous medieval sounds of early instruments played by La Volta. There will be an impressive array of young dancing feet - the medal winners of Irish dancing 'Celtic Claddagh' will be joined by the young Neyland dancers Instep and the 'Star Struck Stompers' - a feast of medal winning movement.
Among the stalls and displays to interest everyone there will be the bouncy castle and the merry-go-round that will complete this summer's evening festive atmosphere.
Dyfed Choir's new music director, Seimon Morris, commented: "The Dyfed Choir is known for its fine performances with top class orchestras and soloists and it is our aim to bring this quality of music to a wider audience. We have to accept our role as educators as well as performers by nurturing the next generation of talented young musicians and choristers. We realise that it is virtually impossible to have a cathedral audience full of junior children for one of our major concerts, but a venue with child centred activities is a brilliant showcase for the work of the unsung champions of music tuition in our infant and junior schools - the music teacher!"
The Dyfed Choir are performing a programme of Handel, Vivaldi and Telemann in St. David's Cathedral on July 7. The Baroque era is featured on the A level syllabus and the choir are inviting A level students studying this period to take the opportunity to see and hear the authentic Baroque instruments played by the orchestra - The Concerto Gallese Baroque Orchestra and soloists, with the authentic Baroque style sung by the Dyfed Choir before the concert.
It is hoped that some of the orchestra will travel down for tomorrow's fashion show with some of their instruments to play alongside the other music groups performing. This has to be confirmed.
Tickets for the show, which begins at 7 pm and is estimated to last to 9.30 pm, are available from all five businesses taking part, as well as the four junior schools singing with the Dyfed Choir. They are £7 each (£20 for a family of four) and accompanied children under 10 are free.
