A KILGETTY woman has been reunited with an old friend who used to look after her at her parents guesthouse in Tenby over 60 years ago.

Irene Davies (nee Marriot), whose parents, Hedley and Phyllis Irene Marriot, ran the Alma Boarding House Hotel in Victoria Street back in the 1940s, was looked after at the premises by children's nanny and hotel helper, Mary Jenkins, when she was aged between three and seven years.

Now, over 60 years later and following a chance conversation with a staff member at Withybush Hospital over the festive period, Irene, who has resided in Kilgetty since 2000, after living away from the area for several years, has been reunited with her former nanny.

"I was at the hospital before Christmas visiting there, when I got talking to one of the ladies who worked on one of the wards, who I discovered was the daughter of my former carer at the hotel all those years ago," explained Irene.

It turns out that Irene's former nanny Mary now lives in Pembroke Dock, and both ladies were delighted to meet up again.

"It's been so amazing to find this lady just out of the blue after all these years and such a delight to be reunited," said Irene.
