There was a great turnout of the Friends of Jubilee Park East Williamston recently when over 20 people worked for a couple of hours helping to clear an area of diseased willows. The area will soon be replanted with alder trees which seem to thrive! The energetic group included all ages, from young teenagers to those of a certain age! The morning started with a brief tour of the park explaining, particularly to new members, how the park had evolved since 2002 and where the work would continue; where coppicing and clearing would be needed to encourage wild flowers, where hedges would be laid, fences repaired and streams cleared. In the future bird boxes will be placed in the trees and these and other wildlife will be monitored. The park enjoys a large number of visitors to the play area as well as for a peaceful walk or to exercise dogs, and the Friends are particularly keen that all dog owners are responsible in clearing up any mess left - 'there's no poop fairy in the park!' The group meet on the first Saturday of each month and new volunteers are always welcome.
