The newly-elected chairman of the Friends of Pembrokeshire National Park and over 20 other Friends visited the Park Authority's Pembroke Dock headquarters last Wednesday. Brian Powdrill, of Castlemorris, and his colleagues met with authority members and officers and were given an insight into how the authority has strongly adopted sustainability principles in the refurbishment of the former army building. They saw the biomass boiler - which burns wood pellets instead of fossil fuels - the solar panels for heating water, learned about the rainwater harvesting system and were given a talk on sustainability. "It was a very enlightening and useful meeting," said Brian Powdrill. "The meeting also offered an opportunity to introduce the new Friends' committee to Park members and staff and to discuss ways of establishing better lines of communications. "I think the Park Authority views us as a 'critical friend'; someone who gives support when it is deserved but is prepared to criticise when necessary."
