A French teacher who teaches English at a seaside resort in France has written to Tenby Town Council looking at the possibility of twinning her home town with Tenby. In a letter which came before councillors at their meeting on Tuesday evening, teacher Marie-Paul Dupont wrote explaining her desire to see the French port of Gilles Croix de Vie twinned with the Pembrokeshire town. "As an English teacher in France for the past 30 years, I've organised three exchanges between my secondary school and schools in South Wales, so I've had many opportunities to visit your part of Wales, take pupils there and truly consider Wales as my 'second home' as I have made good friends there," wrote Marie-Paul. "Every time I've been to Tenby I've enjoyed the place a lot and think it would be a good idea if we could start a town twinning between the two places, which I think are quite similar. "Saint Gilles de Vie, which is situated in the county of Vendee (between Nantes and La Rochelle), is a touristic town with a nice beach, quite big marina and a fishing port," she continued. When discussing the correspondence, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown said that members could support the idea, but felt that it would be more of a community-led project, with a possible twinning group formed to oversee any scheme. Clr. Trevor Hallett thought that members of the community may read of the idea in the newspaper and come forward if interested.
