Freemasons from Tenby and the Province of West Wales were pleased to support The Swan and Birds of Prey Rescue Centre run by Mrs. Maria Evans for the past 18 years at Tinkers Hill, Amroth.

The centre rescues injured and sick swans and birds of prey, nursing them back to good health and then releasing them back into their natural surroundings.

Unfortunately, some birds are so badly injured that they are never able to return and these are looked after for life at Tinkers Hill. Mrs. Evans covers a very large area in her voluntary work, in fact only last year between collecting and delivering these birds she travelled over 15,000 miles. Add to this the cost of feed and veterinary fees, and it all amounts to a considerable outlay each year.

So many of us take our birds and wildlife for granted, but it is only through the dedicated work of people like Mrs. Evans that many of our bird species survive.

Simon Toy, the Worshipful Master of Tenby Lodge, was therefore pleased to present the Friends of Tinkers Hill with a cheque for £200 from Tenby Lodge and £400 from the Province of West Wales charity funds.

Some good news since this photograph was taken of Mrs. Evans and Simon Toy is that the orphaned signet that she is holding has been adopted by a family from Neath.
