Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland and the Stroke Association have teamed up to Make a Difference to Pembrokeshire by offering free blood pressure checks and information to local residents.
Nurses will be taking free blood pressure checks at the following locations in the county on Saturday, April 5: Haverfordwest - Safeway, 10 am - 3 pm; Milford Haven - outside Boots, Retail Trading Estate, 10 am - 4 pm; Saundersfoot - Harbour or Tourist Information Centre, 10 am - 3 pm; Tenby - mobile and tent in Tudor Square, 10 am - 3 pm; Narberth - Baptist Church schoolroom, High Street, 10 am - 4 pm; Whitland - to be announced.
Information on reducing high blood pressure which is one of the greatest risk factors for stroke will also be available.
Stroke is the single biggest cause of death and disability in England and Wales and the number one cause of severe disability. Over 100,000 people are affected each year. People with high blood pressure have up to seven times greater chance of stroke than those with normal blood pressure, but a number of simple life changes can help to reduce this risk of suffering a stroke.
Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland support the Stroke Association in its campaign for stroke awareness. The Stroke Association was named the community and vocational service project by the president of Rotary International.
