Pembroke and Tenby Ladies travelled to Fishguard to mark the opening of their new Astroturf. Pembroke took to the field knowing that they had successfully retained their league title for a fourth consecutive year. It was Tenby who showed the greater determination from the start and immediately had Pembroke's defence and midfield under severe pressure. Excellent saves by 'keeper Victoria Scourfield prevented Tenby from opening the scoring. Pembroke began to settle into their game and from a fine move down the right-hand side by Sara Silcox and Jackie Cadogan, they opened the scoring against the run of play. With both teams being very evenly matched, it was end to end play, with both failing to take their chances. An injury to Sara Silcox saw Pembroke down to 10 players, but excellent work by Brenda Scourfield, Kathryn Hunter, Jenny Cadogan and Julia Griffiths kept the score at 1-0 into the half-time break. Stitched up, Sara Silcox took to the field again, but it was Tenby who dominated and from this levelled the score. Both teams worked extremely hard and from a short corner, Jane Wheeler put Pembroke back into the lead with an excellent strike, only to see Tenby level at the other end. A draw was a fair result, with both teams giving 100 per cent commitment and work rate. Pembroke team: Victoria Scourfield, Brenda Scourfield, Julia Griffiths, Sara Silcox, Kathryn Hunter, Jackie Cadogan, Jenny Cadogan, Sarah Lunn, Jessica Lawrence, Allys Silcox, Jane Wheeler.
UNDER 15s
Pembroke Under 15s travelled to play against Milford Under 15s last Wednesday. Playing without regular sweeper Hollie Thompson and centre of midfield, Hayley Ferrier, due to injuries, Pembroke had to adapt the team accordingly by moving Fionne Ashman into the sweeper role and Jass Blunsden into midfield. The game started very evenly, with both sides creating scoring opportunities, but excellent goalkeeping by Pembroke's Laura Frazer and defending by the excellent Fionne Ashman prevented Milford from opening the scoring. Pembroke settled into their game and, with this very young side growing in confidence, they started to create scoring opportunities, only to see the Milford defence hold firm. A breakaway by Milford saw Fionne Ashman and Laura Frazer totally outnumbered and Milford took the lead. Pembroke continued to work hard, with the midfield of Emily Kaijaks, Zoe Priestly, Jass Blunsden and Chloe Lloyd gaining excellent ball to feed forwards Tess Saunders, Jodie and Kim, but they could not convert their chances into goals. Lack of concentration at the start of the second half saw Milford increase their lead, which could have been increased even further, had it not been for some good tackling by Danielle Rowe and Amy Powell. Pembroke had plenty of chances to pull a goal back, but just couldn't get that round thing in the net! Milford increased their lead further to give them a three-nil victory. Pembroke's young side (many of them only 12) showed that there is the potential for them to turn into fine hockey players. Team: Laura Frazer, Fionne Ashman, Danielle Rowe, Amy Powell, Chloe Lloyd, Jass Blunsden, Zoe Priestley, Emily Kaijaks, Tess Saunders, Jodie, Kim.
