Former Mayor of Narberth, Clr. Mrs. Sue Rees has announced her intention to stand for the town ward seat at the next Pembrokeshire County Council election.
Clr. Mrs. Rees has lived in Narberth for 25 years and has been a town councillor for 14 years.
She has been a member of many local groups over the years, including Civic Week, the Chamber of Trade and at present manages The Bus Stop Youth Project on the Town Moor.
She works for Pembrokeshire College as a tutor and was a governor of Templeton School for many years.
Clr. Mrs. Rees said: "A county councillor needs to know the people and the place they represent.
"They need to live in the area and be accessible to people, in order to represent them properly.
""People who know me, know that I am not afraid to speak my mind. I am a town councillor and I have had the honour twice of being Mayor of Narberth, but I am probably best-known as the landlady of The Ivy, which my husband John and I ran for over 10 years and my dad and mum ran for 10 years before that.
"I am passionate about Narberth and I have no political affiliations other than doing the best I can for my home town. I hope that I am given the opportunity to make sure that Narberth stays the best town in Pembrokeshire."
COUNCILLOR'S Clarification
Meanwhile, current county councillor Wynne Evans, who is to stand down as the town's representative, confirmed his plans this week.
Last week, we reported that Clr. Evans was to leave his post.
At Tuesday night's meeting of Narberth Town Council, members expressed their concern that the town ward would be left without a representative until a new member was elected.
However, when we contacted Clr. Evans and asked him to clarify his position, he said: "I will remain in office until the eve of the election as I have lots still to finish. It's not resignation, just advanced notice that I will not seek re-election."
