IT was announced in the Cathedral and across the Diocese last weekend that the Rev. Canon Jonathan Lean had been appointed Dean and Precentor of St. David's Cathedral and Rector of the Rectorial Benefice of Dewisland.

The new Dean was born in Fishguard in 1952. After training for the ministry at Burgess Hall, Lampeter, and the College of the Resurrection, Mirfield, he was ordained in St. David's Cathedral in 1975.

For six years, he served as curate of the Rectorial Benefice of Tenby, and in 1981, was appointed Vicar of Llanrhian, Llanhowell and Llanreithan (which now comprises part of the Rectorial Benefice of Dewisland).

In 1988, he was appointed Vicar of St. Martin's, Haverfordwest, with Lambston and 12 years later he became Canon Residentiary of St. David's Cathedral, holding the stall of Mathri, alongside being Vicar of the parish of St. David's.

He is an active musician, a regular member of the John S. Davies Singers, and occasionally takes solo roles with amateur local choirs.

Speaking after his appointment, the new Dean said: "It has been a great privilege and pleasure for me to work and minister in the Cathedral during the past eight years. I am deeply honoured that Bishop Wyn has invited me to succeed him as Dean. I hope to be able to build on the successes of recent years and continue to develop the mission and ministry of our cathedral church."
