Over 50 youngsters took part in a fun football camp in Pembroke Dock over half-term. The youngsters, mostly from the Bush Estate, played fun football and took part in skills coaching, and races, as well as a mock World Cup Footie Tournament. Organised by Sport Pembrokeshire - the sports development arm of Pembrokeshire County Council - the camp was a trial run for a summer programme that will tour the county during the school summer holidays. Clr. Rob Lewis, cabinet member for sport and leisure, said the summer camps would be run in conjunction with local football clubs and were a natural follow on from Sport Pembrokeshire's expanding programme of out-of-school-hours sports clubs. "Winning youngsters over to club based activity encourages healthy exercise and good habits from an early age," he said. This summer Football Fun Camps will take place at: Kilgetty July 23-27; Haverfordwest (Bridge Meadow) July 30 - August 3; Pembroke Dock (Bush Camp) August 6-10; and Goodwick August 13-17. If any other community football club is interested in taking part they should contact Sport Pembrokeshire. The scheme will be part funded by Sport Pembrokeshire and sponsorship from Chevron - keeping the cost to just £7 a day per child. Parents are advised to book their children's places early. Sport Pembrokeshire can be contacted at County Hall in Haverfordwest on 01437 776191.
