Hallowe'en was still in the air as a blood-red sun set over the end of this Reserve Division Two bottom of the league clash of the underdogs. Not so much the beautiful game, as the scary movie. Ghoulish players emerged on to the pitch. Defenders still carrying weeping wounds from recent encounters. Goalkeepers with octopus arms and freakishly large hands. Midfielders barked commands and attackers chaotically raced and turned, shaking off any opposition who dared get near. Pendine's Teggid Edwards, who doggedly pursued the ball all match as if possessed by Cerberus, opened the scoring. Manorbier's response was swift equalising with Rob Sawyer's screaming shot scorching the sandy soil. The Seagulls' next goal was not so dramatic. A Blues defender, who shall remain nameless, sprouted a hand from his shoulder to deflect a shot and incurred a penalty. Chris Edwards beat the 'keeper to put Pendine back in the lead. Adding insult to injury, Pendine's midfield and forwards outpaced the Zombie-like Manorbier team, with Thomas Roberts making it 3-1 at half- time. After swigging witch's brew, Manorbier came back fortified, their defence and goal an impenetrable portcullis. Frantic Manorbier tore into Pendine territory. Crosses spat flames and corners summoned hurricanes of movement, but the goal failed to materialise. Out of the darkness, a glimmer of hope came with a fiery free-kick that, had it been lower, would have taken the head off one of Pendine's wall and burnt a hole in the back of the net. So the match continued, with both teams hungry for a goal, giving as good as they got, 'til the setting sun signalled the 90th minute and the very, very end. P.B.
