A food wholesale warehouse in Pembroke Dock was closed on Tuesday, July 4, by officers from Pembrokeshire County Council's food team. It was closed by the service of a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Notice following a routine food hygiene inspection on the same day. The inspection at Skelfayre Ltd's depot based on the Kingswood Trading Estate, London Road, Pembroke Dock, revealed a rat infestation with evidence of product damage and contamination. An application was made to the Magistrates Court last Thursday, July 6, and a Hygiene Emergency Prohibition Order was made confirming this action. The company supplies around 400-500 catering businesses each week, including schools, residential care homes, hotels, and restaurants. Their customer base extends to businesses in both Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion. As a precaution, a food product recall has been initiated by Skelfayre Ltd (on the council's advice and following our consultation with Food Standards Agency Wales), covering foods supplied prior to the July 5. Pembrokeshire County Council are working with full co-operation from the company to identify products stocked in the Pembroke Dock warehouse, that may have been exposed to possible contamination. These will be subject to destruction and no further products will be supplied. Officers from the council's food team are contacting businesses to confirm that they have been made aware of the recall and that the items have been removed from use pending return, and in addition will supervise the destruction of the returned product, to prevent any risk of it re- entering the food chain. This is an isolated incident limited to Skelfayre Ltd's Pembroke Dock depot and alternative arrangements have been made to ensure that normal deliveries are resumed as quickly as possible from the company's Drefach depot, which has been checked and cleared by the local Environmental Health Officer. If members of the public have any concerns, they should phone Pembrokeshire County Council contact centre on 01437 764551.
